Surrender.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about surrender. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for surrender. Thank You for teaching us that surrender is key to obedience to You; You say in Your word that obedience is better than sacrifice, so help us to be wholeheartedly obedient to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When you think of surrender, what do you think of? I think of a group raising the white flag, acknowledging that they can’t keep up the fight any longer. On my end, I believe it’s the same thing with God. There are times where we raise the white flag, admitting to God: “I can’t do this in my own strength. I surrender,” but there are times in which we don’t need to fight God (we can just surrender).
Surrender, according to Merriam-Webster, means “to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another.” In our own relationships with God, I think it’s the same way: we yield our wants in light of what He wants for us. You see, God’s plans for us are best (Jeremiah 29:11). God tells us as we apply that verse in our lives that His plans are to prosper us, not to harm us, to give us hope and a future.
It’s easy to surrender when you trust. When you trust someone, you know that person is not going to hurt you or put you in harm’s way, so my thought is that some of us struggle with surrender because we don’t trust God. We say (let me be honest, I SAY), God, I know Your best is for us, but when God calls us (me) to give something up, I struggle because I really want to keep what I currently have. There’s this double-mindedness, where I say one thing and my actions show another.
Friend, it can’t be that way. When God calls us to surrender, it’s because He has the best for us, so it’s a matter of trusting Him, His character and what He says about His best.
My friend, God cares a lot about you, yet He wants you to live surrendered, so you can fulfill the purpose He has for you.
Luke 9:23 states, “If any man [or woman] come after me, let him [or her] deny himself [or herself], pick up his [or her] cross daily, and follow me.” This verse is all about surrender. It’s all about showing God that His will takes precedence over ours and we trust Him with the best, so if you’re struggling to trust, let God know that, and read His Word to learn about His character. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are good and Sovereign. Thank You for the gift of writing. Help us to live in surrender daily and follow You. Help us to know You as You are, so surrender isn’t going to be as difficult. Help us to trust You. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
