Staying Pure.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and I’m back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about hearts. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. You say in Your Word that we can stay pure when we obey Your Word. Help us to obey Your Word. We repent for (turn away from) the ways in which we haven’t obeyed Your Word. Keep us submitted to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word (Psalm 119:9, NLT).
Psalm 119, the longest chapter, written by King David has one common theme: loving/obeying God’s Word. Throughout the Psalm, David speaks about the fact that he delights in God’s Word and how he longs to obey God’s Word. The verse above is a key message in the Psalm as well. It’s an advice to believers by reminding us that the way we can stay pure is by obeying God’s Word.
There are many things in life vying for our attention: social media, Tiktok, friends, relationships, and so much more. The Lord is a jealous God, meaning that He will not allow His affections to be taken by another. Yet He reminds us that the company that we keep can influence the way we live our lives, i.e., bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33), so how can a young man stay pure? By obeying God’s Word. It’s pretty simple. When you think about the Bible, what do you think of it as? I heard of it as an acronym such as “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth,” serving as a guideline on how we’re to live before we leave this earth. Is that how you treat it as? A lifeline or a guideline forming the way in which you should carry yourself?
The Bible is so much more. It’s a love letter, letting us know about God’s care and love for His people, yet it also shows us about the character of God as well. The Bible teaches us to know God, to love Him, and to love others well. It truly is “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.”
Friend, the Bible helps keep us pure, not in a self-righteous way, but in a way to check ourselves against God’s light to see if we’re living rightly — the way He wants us to be. You see, our actions can seem pure, but in front of God, they’re not. That’s why judging it against God’s Word is important.
Friend, let God judge you and make you into the image of His Son — the way He wants you to be. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for molding us into the image of Your Son. Forgive us for hardness of heart towards You and others. Teach us to number our days and to know You for You. Help us to walk pure lives in front of You daily. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
That’s all I have for today!
Don’t forget you are loved, salty, and lit!
Talk to you soon! 🧡
