Speak Life.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

(Proverbs 18:21)

Those words rang true for me today, when I experienced something that showed me the importance of my words.

Speaking to my students today, I let them know they were leaders. I let them know that they shift people’s perceptions of them, based on how they carry themselves. Mind you, these kids are 6-7 years old, yet those words hit true to them today.

I saw the shift in their postures. I saw the shift in their identities. I saw the shift in wanting to be called third graders and even twelfth graders. I saw the potential, and for the first time, I listened. I finally saw what others spoke to me. When you speak life, you get life. When you speak words of kindness to others, you show they’re capable, and they love it! When you show words of kindness, you let them know you’re capable, even when you’re not doing what you’re supposed to. When you show words of kindness, you show love.

On the other hand, when you speak words of death, you reap death, not spiritually per se, but literally. You see shifts in behaviors, where one begins to take a defeatist mindset, where one begins to be troubled, and where one begins to struggle with identities. It’s not that what they did wasn’t wrong. The behavior is, but that’s not them. Speaking life causes someone to rise higher, so speak life, sis. Speak life over your family, speak life over your job, speak life over your finances, speak life everywhere, and then see the fruit that comes. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. Thank You for showing me through my class the power of my tongue. Help us to speak life wherever we go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
