Rest.

Today I rest

Knowing God has it under control

I rest knowing that faith takes the lead

It leads me beside still waters

It restores my soul

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about rest. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for rest. Thank You that it’s a gift from You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

So rest is a four letter word, meaning “a bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities” (Merriam-Webster). How many of you rest? I’ll admit I can be a bit of a workaholic at times, but God’s been working on that. The grind needs to stop.

When I work, I show God I trust Him, but I work to the extent that my body is at an expense. I overwork it to the point of pain, and the Lord’s been teaching me I have limits. What are limits? They’re like capacity/boundary lines that let you know when to stop. For me, my boundary has been crossed many a times, knowing good and well it hurts, but God has let me know that’s not kind.. to myself or my body. When I show kindness to myself, I listen to my body when she says stop. I listen when she says keep going. I listen when she tells me slow down, but I don’t. I don’t show kindness in these moments, but that will change.

We only have one body, and we will be judged based on how we treated it (our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we were bought with a price), so when we treat ourselves lovingly, we let the Lord know we’re being stewards of the thing He gave us; when we treat it negatively, we show Him we’re not being good stewards. It’s simple as that.

So, what’s your choice? Will you treat your body well or not? Let’s pray.

Father, You are good. Thank You for work. Thank You for rest. Help us to balance them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
