Change Your Mentality.
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2)
Hey y’all, it’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s segment, we are going to be talking about mindset matters. Let’s pray!
Abba, You are so good. Thank You for teaching us the importance of renewing our minds. Help us to renew our minds daily, moment-by-moment. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
So mindset mentality. My church is doing a topic on the Holy Spirit, and those who know Julie know I love the Holy Spirit, but something that the pastor reminded me of was that the Holy Spirit changes people. He changes our minds, and we’re brought to Romans for that thought. It says in Romans 12:1-2 (listed above), that our bodies are to be living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God because of what He has done for us. What has He done for us? He sent the ultimate offering for our sins: Jesus, which demonstrates His love for all people.
And when you accept Jesus, there is a work that gets done: The Holy Spirit comes into your life and starts doing work. He starts changing things. Things you used to do, you start to get a little disdain towards it. You start to feel conviction towards former things, and God starts working in you as you continue to follow His lead.
When I was young, I loved music (I still love music), but over time, I got convicted about the music I was listening to. Was it glorifying God? Was it edifying my spirit? Though it sounded good, was it actually good? No. Remember, music is spiritual, so when you’re listening to music, you don’t know what kind of doors/access you’re opening to the enemy.
As salt and light people (or salty and lit people), we must be vigilant in what we consume. That’s why in Joshua, when it says “Me and my house we will serve the Lord.” You gotta decide who you’re going to serve: the Lord or what else? When we serve the Lord, we get fruit (good ones). When we don’t, we get bad ones. Simple as that.
My friend, I want to encourage you to change your mentality. What does that look like? Check with God to see what He wants you to do, and trust He’ll do it all for His glory. Let’s pray.
Father, You are so good. Thank You for mentality checks. Help us to trust Your Spirit when He changes us. Help us to know Your Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
