Rest.
“Come to Me all who are weary…”
Come. Rest.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’ll be talking about rest. Let’s pray.
Father, Your grace is sufficient for me. Help us to understand that in our weaknesses, You are strong. Help us to lean on You through it all. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
Lately, I've been relearning rest. Sometimes, I think rest means stopping from doing stuff when I feel tired, but I’m learning that rest has work involved at times. Rest often comes as a result from doing work or something along those lines. God rested from His work in Genesis. God touched on rest in the Old Testament by talking about Sabbath days and keeping them holy. If one were to violate the Sabbath law, s/he could be punished to death. It’s serious when it comes to rest.
God knows we need rest, and He obligates for us to do it, but sometimes, we can live in a society where rest is put to the back because work needs to be done.
I’m not saying neglect the work that needs to be done, but there are times that rest is important.
Something I was always reminded of in different scenarios was that Jesus rested. The God of the universe who came in the flesh RESTED. Then who am I not to rest?
Sometimes, our excuse is that stuff needs to get done, which is true, but at the same time, we can’t neglect taking care of ourselves as the temple of the Holy Spirit by letting our bodies get overworked.
Friend, God calls us to rest, and you can choose to rest. I’m honest with myself and with you all: I struggle with rest. I want to accomplish everything, but what I learned is that there will always be something else I can do, and I have to be mindful to not overwork myself, so that I don’t reach my point of burning out.
Friend, rest is important.
If you’re struggling with rest, here’s the first thing you can do: Come to God.
He says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” God will give you rest, but you have to come to Him.
Not sure how to come to Him? Just say, “God, I come before You feeling tired. Give me wisdom on what to do. Help me to understand the rest You give. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Well, friend, I hope this is the first step to engage in rest. Let’s pray.
Father, You are so good. Thank You for rest. Thank You for holding me accountable to write. Help us to embrace Your rest in all things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
That’s all I have for today! Don’t forget these three things: you are loved, salty, and lit! Talk to you soon! 🧡
