Mercy.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

(Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV)

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about the steadfast love of the Lord. Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, we come before You Yahweh, saying thank You. Thank You for your steadfast love. That means it’s unchanging and unwavering. Help us to know Your truth, which is that Your love for us never changes. Thank You for dying on the cross for our sins and helping us know that You love us eternally. Thank You again Abba. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

What does it mean for God to have a steadfast love? The steadfast love of God also translates to “The mercies of God” (BibleHub, 2026). When we say mercies, we talk about kindness that is shown towards someone, even though they could be treated harshly (Merriam-Webster, 2026). When you think about the steadfast love of God, in His love, God doesn’t give us what we actually deserve. In fact, we all deserve separation from Him because of our sinful nature, yet with love, He made a way back to Him through Christ.

The steadfast love never ceases means it will never cease. It will never stop. It will just keep going. God doesn’t decide one morning saying, “Alright, I’m not loving this person anymore. I’m done with them.” No, His steadfast love loves us, even when we sin. Sin causes separation, but God is still pursuing His people to be in right relationship with Him.

Consider the Israelites. These people sinned against God, and yet God pursued them. “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15, ESV). When reading this, my heart breaks a little to see how much God desires to be in relationship with His people, but the thing is that He can’t stand sin, so it causes separation amongst them.

Yet God in His mercy (steadfast love) provides a way to get back to Him. He says the key to doing that is to repent (acknowledge one’s sin, turn from your wicked ways, and come back to God).

Friend, God wants a relationship with you. He wants to be reconciled to you (that means, brought back into relationship with you). However, you must accept Jesus as Your Lord and Savior and turn from your ways.

Father, You are good. You are kind. Thank You for teaching us about the steadfast love of the Lord. Help us to know Your mercies endure forever. Amen.
