Mental Health.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” Today’s post is going to be a transparent post, in which we talk about mental health. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. Thank You that it is by Your stripes we are healed. Thank You that You care about our mental health, and You have given us community to reach out to when things get tough. Thank You Abba. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
So mental health… It’s a topic that has been talked about lately, and it’s a topic that’s near to my heart.
When we struggle with mental health, I want to say you’re not alone in this. There are many folks in Scripture who dealt with mental health: Elijah, Moses, Jesus, David, and so many others. When we think of mental health, we think of a state of a person mentally. Some things can impact one’s mental health: diet, stress, environment, and other things, but it’s important to note when our stress is getting too much because it can impact our well-being.
Let’s use the story of Elijah. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah just had a showdown between Baal’s prophets to demonstrate whose God is the true God. Afterwards, Jezebel threatens to kill Elijah, and he’s shaken up by what happens and decides to run away. During this time, Elijah receives some support: bread (verses 5-6), rest (verse 5), and direction (15-17).
Friend, mental health is a serious thing, and God has given us things to support us in our mental health journeys. I’m someone who’s had mental health struggles in the past, and I’m learning to grow with it. It’s not easy, but having community and the resources God has given like therapy helps.
Let’s pray.
Father, You are Sovereign. Thank You for watching over us and knowing about our mental health. Teach us to understand You reign over all. You know us in our struggles and You help us in our times of need. Thank You Abba. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
