Friends: How Many of Us Have Them?

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and I’m back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about friendship. Let’s pray: Dear Heavenly Father, You are so kind. Thank You for being our friend. Teach us how to be friends to others. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

So a friend, according to the King James Bible Dictionary, is “one who is attached to another by affection; one who entertains for another sentiments of esteem, respect and affection, which lead him (or her) to desire his (or her) company, and to seek to promote his (or her) happiness and prosperity; opposed to foe or enemy.”

What does a friend do?

When we define a friend, it’s someone who is there for you, and it doesn’t have to be physically.

Proverbs 17:17a states, "A friend loves at all times.” A quality of a friend is someone who loves at all times. Love doesn’t mean they are there physically 24/7, but they show their love differently. A friend loving at all times isn’t someone who is a yesman or a yeswoman. It’s one who is brave to let you know when you’re doing wrong and will correct you as well. A friend loving at all times also can surrender their time in a moment to support you in your time of need.

Friends are full of sacrifice, but it has to be reciprocated. Friendships that are one-sided aren’t really friendships, and it takes asking God to learn more about friendships. What does that mean for you?

Take time to consider the types of friendships/relationships you have. Are you willing to be corrected? Are you open to correcting your friend when they’re in trouble? If so, you have a good one. If not, check your friendship to see what’s going on there.

All in all, friendships are good because God didn’t create us to be alone, so it’s important to recognize the friendships God has placed in our lives for us to grow. Let’s pray.

Father, You are so good. Teach us to be friends to one another and to You. Help us to obey You in everything. Amen.

That’s all I have for today, and don’t forget you are loved, salty, and lit! Talk to you soon! 🧡
