Anger… God’s Way.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

(Ephesians 4:26, ESV)

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and today, we’ll be talking about anger. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. Thank You for teaching us that anger is a gift from You. Help us to understand which anger is from You and which anger causes us to do things You don’t want. Help us to know Your truth and follow it daily. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

So anger, like I said in the prayer, is a gift from God. It’s an emotion that lets us know something is wrong, but the difference is that anger uncontrolled, gives footholds to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). When we’re angered, we know something is wrong because something triggered us to feel angry (either an injustice or something of the like). When we feel anger, it’s important to know how to act, or we can give foothold to our anger. Here are some steps that we can take to control our anger.

  1. Take a breath. Sometimes, breathing helps. When you pause, you can reflect on what you’re feeling and assess the situation in a different situation.

  2. Pray. God wants to hear about your anger. He’s not upset when you bring those emotions to Him, but He may call you to act on that anger in a way that you might not want.

  3. Forgive. Try very quickly to forgive the person, who wronged you. Even if they never say sorry, let it go.

  4. There may be moments, where you tell the person that they hurt you, but try to forgive even if they don’t say anything.

  5. Don’t react. Don’t respond in anger. When you do, you might lash out and have to pay consequences for that. Think of Moses: He was angry at the Israelites, and out of his response, he disobeyed a direct command from God and missed out on the Promised Land. Don’t let anger get you out of what God promised you.

Let’s pray.

Father, anger is a gift from You because You expressed anger. Help us to distinguish when anger is right and justified versus when it’s not. Help us to know Your will in our lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

That’s all I have for today! Don’t forget you are loved, salty, and lit! Talk to you soon! 🧡
