Intimacy with God.
Hey y’all! It’s your girl Julie, and I’m back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, I’ll be sharing my testimony, which is where I share what God has done for me. Let’s pray:
God, You are so good. Thank You for the opportunity to share my testimony. I pray that those that come across it will be blessed by You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I recall the absolute silence of the room, voices off with the whirring of the air conditioning, one August day. “A friend of God is an enemy of the world, and the opposite of it is true: a friend of the world is an enemy of God.” Those were the words that the Pastor said that woke my spirit up to see my condition. “I didn’t want to be an enemy of God,” I said internally. “I want to be God’s friend.” Taking that step, I decided to follow through with God’s pursuit of intimacy with God by going up to the altar that day and accepting Christ as my personal Savior.
It was weird growing up as a church kid because what did I mean I wasn’t saved? I mean, I grew up in the church, loved learning about the Bible, but that day struck a chord for me. I needed my own personal relationship with God, and I decided to pursue it. However, it was God pursuing me the whole time.
For example, in the areas of romantic relationships (I knew there was more because God never let me settle). Even when I wanted to, I would feel this discomfort letting me know that I couldn’t stay where I was anymore. It was crazy because I told myself if God didn’t want me here, imagine the thing that God had set aside for me!
I noticed God pursuing me at Smith. When I was at Smith, I was in a relationship, where all of a sudden, I came to my senses and needed out ASAP. It was like a switch that turned on, where God was like, “Nope! This is not it,” and I obliged. It was also at Smith, where I experienced a relationship with the Holy Spirit, where I developed my own heavenly language and grew spiritually.
Even now, the God of the universe pursues me. Since the beginning, He wanted relationship with me, and even in those moments, where I felt low in my faith, God still pursued me.
What kind of love is that? For those who haven’t experienced that kind of love, I can tell you that it’s good. He even desires intimacy with you that He had me write “Convos with Abba” and release it this March. When I tell you God loves intimacy, it’s because He does. He desires to be in relationship with His people (that’s been His plan since the beginning, even with sin entering into the world), but He desires intimacy with us, even as we accept His Son Jesus’s sacrifice for our sins. That way, we can have intimacy with Him the way He wanted us to.
When we’re intimate with God, we pour out onto others well. When we’re not intimate with God, well we can still pour out on others, but it may not be the best.
So my friend, what’s keeping you from pursuing intimacy with God? What would it look like to pursue intimacy with God this season.
Let’s pray:
Father, thank You for being good. Thank You for being intimate. I pray that those who come across this will encounter You in their own way. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Talk to you soon!
