Friends.

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and I’m back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about friends. Let’s pray.

Father, You are so good. Thank You for the gift of friendship. Help us to know You are our Friend. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

How many of you knew God wants to be your friend? In the beginning, God created us for relationship with Him. When Adam and Eve walked in the garden (of Eden), God walked among them and met with them and communed with them. It’s the same for us. For those who have relationship with God (that’s through believing in His Son Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for our sins and trusting in His finished work), we are able to enter into relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is what I call the secret weapon of the Trinity. A lot of times, people don’t know a lot about Him, but He’s part of the Godhead and is very active today. He is the One who speaks to us, communicates with us what God says, and lets us know what’s on God’s heart. The Holy Spirit desires to be in communion with you yet has standards. As stated, He’s holy. That means He can’t stand sin. If you’re in sin, the Holy Spirit is gracious enough to convict you (let you know about your actions), but if you’re not listening, He can take other measures and back up or even start changing the way He speaks. God’s not one that’s going to let you in harm’s way. In fact, if He sees you’re in the wrong direction, He’ll speak and let you know ASAP because that’s a good friend. Good friends don’t let friends do bad things.

But a good friend on our end has to be willing to listen. When God says something, do you act like you know better? Do you act like you know what you’re doing? Because 9 times out of 10 we don’t, but we have an Advocate who helps us when we’re struggling (John 14:26). So my friend, how are you treating God as a friend? Are you treating Him with esteem? Or are you treating Him without respect?

Let’s pray:

Father, You are so good. Thank You for being our Friend. Teach us how to be Your friend. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
