Thirsty.

“As the deer pants for the water, so my soul thirsts for you, my soul thirsts for the living God.”

(Psalm 42:1)

Hey y’all! It’s your girl Julie, and I just want to say that it’s HOT (at least, it is where I live)! As the summer months approach us, I’m reminded of one thing: we need water, and in today’s post, I’m going to be talking about us being thirsty. Let’s pray.

Father, You are so good. Help us to know our souls thirst for You. Help us to know it’s You that satisfies our needs ALONE. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

When it’s hot, you get thirsty. That’s because your body is made up of over 70% water, and when it’s hot outside, your body sweats to keep your body at a regulated temperature, but this causes water to leave your body. So with sweat, your body wants to replenish itself after regulating itself. Isn’t it cool to know that God made our bodies like that, where it can regulate their own temperature? However, there can be a downside to the heat: exhaustion, and that’s an extreme case of when your body isn’t regulating itself well anymore. When you’re exhausted, you can sweat, have a dry throat, feel dizzy, feel extremely fatigued, and in some cases, faint. My friend, exhaustion isn’t fun, but it is a warning sign for our bodies to know that we need water to replenish us, and I want to remind us that it’s the same way with God.

When we’re tired, our soul (our inward being) longs for something. There can be signs (irritability, fatigue, anger, impatience, and so much more). When we look at those signs, our soul is communicating something: we need help, and the help we need is from God. In Psalm 42:1, David says, “As the deer pants for the water, so my soul thirsts for you.” David, the author, understands what it means to be thirsty for God. He compares it to a deer who really wants water, and David also points out what his soul thirsts for - God.

Our souls are longing for something, but it’s really God who can do the healing that we actually need because He’s the only One who can satisfy.

My friend, take some time today to talk to God about what’s going on in your heart. If you need help, ask Him to guide you to a topic He wants to talk with you about. Let’s pray.

Father, thank You for being good and kind. Thank You for being our Friend. Help our souls to continue to long for You and help us to recognize You are the One that our souls are longing for. Help us not to run to people, places, or things to fill in voids only You can fill. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Don’t forget you are loved, salty, and lit! Talk to you soon! 🧡
