The Lord Keepeth.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to talk about the Lord keeping people. Let’s pray.
Lord, You are the God who keeps. Thank You for keeping us throughout the years. You watch over us, You protect us, and You show us You’re God. Amen.
What does it mean to be kept? I don’t know about you, but in the Black church, I often hear that the Lord keeps an individual, and there is a praise about the Lord keeping people throughout time.
Abraham was kept. You see, even when God had a promise with Abraham, God kept Abraham from sinning. He told people not to touch Abraham’s wife twice (Genesis 20; Genesis 12:12-20). He kept Lot (Abraham’s nephew) due to Abraham’s intercession, and God kept Abraham through Isaac (allowing a generation to be birthed through obedience to God).
Hagar was kept too. The first woman in the Bible to give God a name (El-Roi: the God who sees), Hagar knew what it was like to be kept by God. God kept her when her master Sarah abused her. God kept Hagar when she ran away into the desert. God kept her when she went back to Sarah, after God explicitly told her to go back to her master (found in Genesis 16).
God is in the business of carrying people, and He’s kept you too.
How has He shown you that He’s God?
How has He shown you, daughter, His character?
Let’s pray.
God, You are the God who sees. Thank You for keeping us throughout the years. Teach us to number our days and live a life surrendered to You. We thank You for keeping us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Don’t forget these three things: you are loved, salty, and lit.
Talk to you soon! 🧡
