Obedience.

God is not just looking for your obedience: He’s looking for obedience from the heart.

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about obedience. Let’s pray.

Abba, You are so good. You are so kind. Teach us to obey You in everything. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Obedience, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, means “the quality or state of being obedient,” while obedient means “ submissive to the restraint or command of authority : willing to obey.”

I’m not going to lie: I’ve been struggling to be obedient, because I didn’t feel like obeying. Yet what I’m being reminded of is that feelings don’t matter in terms of being obedient. What I mean by that is that feelings should not be the final authority on whether you will be obedient to God. God takes into account your posture towards Him, and while yes, you may not feel like doing something, your utmost obedience is valid before God. What I’m also being reminded of is your attitude while being obedient matters before God as well. For example, while you’re doing something for God, if you’re spending most of the time complaining, is He pleased with that?

Feelings are not the final say in whether you should be obedient to God.

Philippians 2:14-16 in the ESV states this, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing,that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.”

When your posture is taking one without grumbling, disputing (fighting), or complaining, you’ll be considered as lights in the world. God gives us the kle (key in Kreyol) on how to live as lights in this world. In a world full of complaining, it’s easy to join them in complaining, but our job as lights is to be countercultural, showing them the light of Christ by acting the way He wants us to act.

Friend, God cares about how we act, and it’s important that we live as lights in the world, showing God’s Word in the darkness.

Heavenly Father, we come before You Abba saying thank you for being a good Lord. Abba, may You be the Lord of our lives. Give us a heart willing to obey You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
