Friendship

What does it mean to be a friend of God?

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about friendship.

Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. You are righteous. You are kind. Teach us to be Your friend. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

When we talk about friendship, what do you think? In my understanding, a friendship is a relationship between two persons that is a bit more intimate than acquaintances. A friend knows more of your secrets and is someone you can trust. The same thing goes in our relationship with God. While we can say God is our friend, can we also say that we are a friend of God?

You see, God has feelings, and He has desires. He desires for us to be in a relationship with Him and has provided a way to do so through His Son Jesus. When we believe in Jesus, follow Jesus, and know Jesus in a deeper way, we show that we want relationship with God and trust His plan for us.

If a friend always says yes to everything you do, you might not have a friend. You might have a yes person.

When we say God is our friend, we are able to share intimate parts of ourselves with Him, letting Him about the things going in our lives, but we also allow Him to check us when we need to. If a friend always says yes to everything you do, you might not have a friend. You might have a yes person.

Friend, on the other side of this: God wants to be your friend, and He wants to call you friend too. But being a friend comes from relationship, intimacy, and loyalty. You see, Jesus didn’t call his disciples friends when He first called them; He called them friends when He was nearing the end of His journey on earth, preparing to go to the cross (John 15:15). Jesus calls His disciples friends because He told them “everything the Father told [Him].” That means there’s this level of knowing that a friend knows, and my friend, is it like that with God? Is your relationship one where He can share things with you? Where He can trust you with His secrets?

Friend, God wants you to be His friend, and He’s looking for a relationship with you- yes, you. All you have to do is seek Him, and you’ll find Him. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are kind. Thank You for seeking a relationship with us. You loved us first, which allows us to love others. Help us to know You better and teach us to be a better friend to You. Thank You, Abba. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

That’s all I have for today!

Don’t forget these three things: you are loved, salty, and lit! 🧡
