Father, You are Sovereign. Thank You for watching over us. Help us to know Your truth, that we are forgiven. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Whom the Son sets free is free indeed is the phrase that repeated in my ears as I prepared for this message. “Free indeed…” What does it mean to be free indeed? While I might share what I think, I think it’s best to share what God thinks or says about it: Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

According to the Dictionary, free means to [enjoy] civil and political liberty (Merriam-Webster, 2026). That means that person is not bound to anything, and the word “indeed,” in my opinion, is an emphasis to say something is certain. For example, if someone is “free indeed,” that person is definitely free. Yet why do we often live our lives as though we are not free? Something that God is teaching me is about mindset. If He says that I'm free regarding something, then I’m free. It’s not my job to hold myself back from the freedom Christ desires for me to live. The Word of God literally says, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law” (Galatians 5:1). God freed you from slavery, so you don’t have to go back to the law.

One area in my life that I’m being freed from is unforgiveness. God corrected me by telling me I wasn’t truly forgiving others because I still held some desire for that person to be harmed in some way. When I looked at the definition of forgiveness, it said, “the intentional, voluntary process of letting go of feelings of resentment, anger, or the desire for vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you” (Gemini, 2026). Basically, it’s releasing the person from the harm they caused you and leaving the rest to God.

It’s easy to act like we’ve forgiven (well for me, it is), but God exposes our hearts to let us know whether we truly did it. God wants us to be more like Him, and He asks us to forgive others, including ourselves. When we forgive, we show God we trust His plan and judgment in our lives. The Bible says in Romans 8:1 that there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. If you’re living with a guilty conscience after you’ve repented, you have to accept the fact that you’ve been forgiven, God forgives you, and you need to forgive yourself.

Daughter, trust the Lord in His judgment when He says you’re forgiven. He sent His Son Jesus to die for you, so even though you have a guilty verdict, God acknowledges it and says the payment was paid on the cross. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” We have to trust in the finished work of Christ y’all, and trust that He forgave and will give you the strength to forgive yourself.

So all in all, forgive yourself sis, and let God do His finished work in you. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiveness. Thank You that it is for freedom that Christ set us free. Help us to not return to a yoke of slavery and unforgiveness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
