Discipline.

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about the fruit from discipline. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. Thank You for the lessons You teach. Help us to use them to be more like You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I don’t know about you, but I hate discipline. But, I love the results that come from being disciplined. For example, I hate waking up early, but I love the fact that I have extra time to do what I need to do in the morning (not feeling rushed or pressured to run to the next thing on my agenda). Discipline is important, yet I’m learning that discipline isn’t easy all the time.

Discipline is a choice. These last few months for me, I’ve been growing in discipline: disciplining my flesh, disciplining my mind, and disciplining myself in so many areas. One area that I’ve been disciplining myself is in the area of finances, and it’s a stretch, but as the Bible says in Hebrews 12:11, “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” It’s not always easy because sometimes, I may make a choice that’s not helpful for me, but I’ve learned to handle consequences and get back on track. For example, bills need to be paid, so I need to ensure that I’m disciplining myself to make sure those things are paid, so certain expenses can’t be done until after I make sure my bills are covered.

When I go through the discipline process, I reap many rewards because 1. I don’t like being behind schedule, and 2. Discipline helps me reach financial freedom. So here’s my question for you, friend: What area(s) in your life need discipline? How can you grow in being disciplined? Who can you ask to hold you accountable in being disciplined?

Like the verse said above: Discipline is painful, but “it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” So friend, let’s be trained by God in discipline and yield the fruit He alone offers. Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for discipline. Thank You for teaching us that discipline helps us grow. Help us to enjoy discipline. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
