Lean Not.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about not leaning on our own understanding. Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, You teach us to lean not on our own understanding. Help us to acknowledge You and the fact that You’ll make our paths straight. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

In Proverbs, we see the author, King Solomon, giving us advice: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,” but what does that actually mean? What does it mean to trust God? When we trust God, we acknowledge Him and put our confidence in Him, based on His track record. We acknowledge Him as God and trust that He is going to do what He said because of His character.

The Bible gives us a similar command in Deuteronomy 6:5: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength.” Jesus extends this even further in Mark 12:30, saying, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (ESV).

The emphasis, sis, is on loving God with your whole being, but how do you do that?

One way is by acknowledging Him in every area of your life.

I don’t know about you, but growing up, I asked God about the little things: “God, how do You think my hair should be done?” “God, what outfit should I wear?” “God, what should I do?” It wasn’t a lack of trust in self; rather, it was an acknowledgement that God knows best, and I’m inviting Him into the “little” details of my life.

God knows ahead, so He knows what’s good for me, so acknowledging Him saves me time lol.

What does it mean to acknowledge Him?

When we acknowledge Him, we recognize Him as Lord in our lives. We see Him as Father and God. Merriam-Webster defines it as “to recognize the rights, authority, or status of.” When you invite God into the small details of your life, He will make your paths straight.

Friend, God cares about the details of your life, and He desires to share it with you, if you invite Him in. He’s not going to force His way into your life, but He does lets you choose between surrendering to Him and choosing your own path. And I must say, His way is better.

Let’s pray.

Dear Heavenly Father God, thank You for being God. Thank You for teaching us to lean not on our own understanding. Help us to acknowledge You in everything, and You will make our paths straight. That’s a promise You made, so we walk in it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

That’s all I have for today! Don’t forget these things: you are loved, salty, and lit! 🧡
