Slow Down.
Slow me down,
Slow me down.
Take my eyes off what’s around…
I don’t want to miss Your Presence
(Charles Weems)
Hey everyone, it’s your girl Julie, and we’re back with another segment of “Salty & Lit.” In today’s post, we’re going to be talking about slowing down.
The song I introduced earlier is called “Slow Me Down” by Charles Weems. It talks about the fact that we could be in a rush, doing all the things, that we could potentially miss God’s hand. However, when I think about this, I think about Martha, who was in a rush, trying to serve Jesus, yet Jesus reminded her that there is a better choice, and Mary chose it.
How many times do we get caught up in serving, that we lose sight of the One we are to serve? God is in the business of our hearts, and if He sees we need moments with Him, He’ll take that over all the things we can do for Him. You see, God values obedience and PRESENCE over everything. Yes, we could do things for Him, but His main goal is intimacy with us. If we lose intimacy out of a desire to serve Him, then we can be entering into dangerous territory.
“But Julie, I thought God wanted us to serve Him?” He does, sis! But there are times where serving can take a seat, so you can spend time in intimacy with the Father.
Friend, God wants intimacy with us, yet He desires us to make the choice for ourselves. We can choose to keep ourselves busy and miss out on His presence, or we can slow down and dwell with Him. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are good. Thank You for Your Word. You are kind. Help us to know Your Presence is valued over all. Teach us to love Your Presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
