PLANTED (BUT they delight).
BUT THEY DELIGHT
“but they delight in the law of the Lord….”
(Psalm 1:2 NIV)
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, BACK with another segment of Salty & Lit! In today's post, we’ll be talking about what it means to delight in the law of the Lord, more specifically, God’s instructions. Before we get started, let’s pray.
Abba, You are so good. Thank You for being our friend, and thank You for speaking to us through Your Word. We ask that you open our hearts and minds to be receptive to what You have to say throughout, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I believe God is teaching us to delight in His Word more than anything else this season.
I know, I know, delighting in God’s Word? It may seem like a hard task to do initially, but over time, it gets better. Let me give you an example of how I learned how to delight in God’s Word.
The other day, I got sick, and I hate getting sick. I struggled in reading God’s Word during that time, so I found devotionals on the Bible app to read. If you’re curious in knowing, I was reading “Until Unity,” “Letting Love In: How God Crushes Your Inner Critic,” and “Do Not Worry.” I found myself still reading other Scriptures when led by Holy Spirit (whom I love by the way), but I noticed something: when you delight in something, even if you don’t want to do it, you still do it because you enjoy it.
To “delight” means to have satisfaction (fulfillment or contentment) in something. It means to take pleasure in something. When I read God’s Word, I might take great pleasure, knowing that regardless of how I’m feeling, God still speaks to me in His Word. But it is up to me to take time to read it.
I’ll be honest: growing in understanding that God’s Word wasn’t meant for making me feel comfortable was DIFFERENT. 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” That means that no matter what I read in God’s Word, I know that it is going to teach me about truth and correct me to go on the path that God has told me to do. So with that, what would it mean for you to delight in the Lord? What does it look like knowing that God’s Word is here to guide you in the way in which you should go? How does this change your perspective of God’s Word?
When you delight in something, even if you don’t want to do it, you still do it because you enjoy it.
As salty and lit people, we are to delight in God’s Word. Let’s take time to start delighting in the relationship we have with the Father by spending time with Him and His Word. Before I let you go, let’s pray.
We thank You for being our friend, and we thank You for the gift of writing.
Abba, we thank You for being good. We thank You for the relationship we have in You. As we spend time with You, may we grow in delighting in Your Word day and night, even when we don’t want to or feel like it. Help us to move past our feelings and do what is good, which is obeying You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
With that, I want to end and remind you of these three things: you are loved, salty, and lit! Talk to you soon! 🧡
