What if the person you struggled to forgive was yourself, but what if I told you God has a way for you to forgive yourself, and you don’t have to condemn yourself. Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, You are good, and You are Holy. Teach us to understand Your Word in a new way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Hey everyone! It’s your girl Julie, back with another segment of “Salty & Lit,” and in today’s post, we’re going to be talking about self-forgiveness.
In Romans 8:1, it says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That means, when we say no condemnation, there is no condemnation. If you’re a Christ follower and believe in the finished work at the cross, you can stand on the truth that you don’t need to condemn yourself because Jesus already took what you did at the cross.
When you define condemnation, it means that you’ve been found guilty of something and must receive the penalty for it, but God’s Word says, “There is no condemnation,” that means that though you are pronounced guilty, Jesus has paid for what you deserve, and you can be reconciled with God and live in relationship with Him, as long as you believe.
That means that thing you are struggling with? There’s no condemnation, yet that doesn’t mean there’s a license to keep sinning (we don’t take advantage of God’s grace). Jesus covered that debt that was owed on the cross through His sacrifice, but what about self-condemnation?
Friend, self-condemnation is real, and it can come from beating yourself up for something you did (as though you should’ve known better or being extremely critical of your actions), but the same way the Bible says, “There is therefore now no condemnation,” that means there is also no self-condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. If you’re in Christ, you don’t need to condemn yourself because He took the penalty on the cross for you. So, what does that mean for you?
Walk in the freedom that comes from being a true daughter of God. He calls you His, so believe His truth about you. You’re not condemned.
Let go of the lie that you have to beat yourself up for your errors. You’re not condemned, and God forgives you, so why can’t you?
Lastly (just for this post), move on. Don’t dwell in the past. In Isaiah 43:19 (NLT), it says, “Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.”God is doing a new thing in your life, so ask Him to perceive it and be aware of it, if you aren’t aware of it already.
God loves you. He doesn’t make excuses for sin, yet in His kindness He gave His Son Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins, so that whoever believes in Him will not be condemned. If you haven’t entered into that love, you can by admitting you’re a sinner, in need of a Savior, and believing in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. That’s it.
Friend, I hope you know God loves you, and you walk in the truth that He always loves you with an everlasting love.
Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being Holy and good. Thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins. Help us to know You more. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
Don’t forget these three things: you are loved, salty, and lit!
Talk to you soon! 🧡
